I didn’t come to training from a background in sport. I came to it from a very difficult personal period. One where I had no confidence, no direction, and no real sense of what I was doing with myself.
Starting to train, both in the gym and in MMA, gave me something to aim for. It gave me structure when I didn’t have any, and it pulled me out of a place I’d been stuck in for a long time. That’s not an exaggeration. Training changed the direction of my life, and it’s the reason I do this for a living now.
So when someone walks into a gym feeling out of place and unsure where to start, I know exactly what that feels like. I’ve been there.
How I train people
I’m a nerd about this stuff, and I mean that as a compliment to myself. I care about the science: what actually drives hypertrophy, what the evidence says about fat loss, why a particular approach works for one person and not another. That’s why I’m currently studying a Level 4 Nutrition qualification on top of my Level 3 PT: I’d rather keep learning than coast on what I already know.
What I’m not interested in is the bare-minimum session, the kind designed to make you feel good for an hour so you book another one. I’d rather you understood why we’re doing what we’re doing, so that eventually you don’t need me telling you.
The other thing I care about is the relationship. I want to actually know my clients: what they’re training for, what’s going on in their week, what’s getting in the way. Training doesn’t happen in isolation from the rest of your life, and the sessions work better when I understand the rest of it.
Who I work with
Complete beginners, experienced gym-goers, athletes, fighters! I enjoy training all of them. A beginner learning to squat properly for the first time and a fighter sharpening up their conditioning are different jobs, but the satisfaction is the same: watching someone find their feet and get better at something.
As an active MMA fighter myself, I also offer boxing and kickboxing pad work – either as conditioning for people who want something different from the usual gym session, or as proper technical work for those who want it.

Away from the gym
I’ve got two pugs I love to death, and most of my time outside training goes on them and on the people close to me, like family and friends. I’m also hugely into music. I used to write and perform it, and I still listen to a wide range of it while I train.
